So, it’s been two weeks since I last gave an update. Mostly it’s because I have been trying to get through my TBR pile. It got kind of big and so I was trying to pace myself. Also, I’m lazy 😛

The book I won I actually got a while ago, but wanted to include it since I haven’t had a chance before this. The rest I got this past week. I feel like I’ve plowed through a lot of books lately, but have been going through my backlist. Yay for getting books read!

Things have been going great lately. The spring weather is beautiful. A wonderful mix of sunshine and rain. I love it! Plus, I’ve had a lot of good reads lately (look for reviews to come). How has your week been? Up to anything new?

Books I acquired:

Won:

I won this book from the fabulous Shanah at Bionic Book Worm. So glad I did! It was a good and different retelling of Beauty and the Beast. You can read my review here.

Bought:

I read the first book in this series, and I had to pick up the second on right away because it was so good! I’ve already read this one (review next week) and enjoyed it as well. I can’t wait for the third book to come out this November. Wish I didn’t have to wait that long.

This has to do with the last book. The True Reign series follow the parents of Allyssa, the main character of the Reign of Secrets series. Now, I’ve seen this book around before and thought I didn’t want to read it because I didn’t like the cover (sorry! I’m shallow like that). But after reading the first two books in the Reign of Secrets, I really wanted to get my hands on Allyssa’s parent’s story. So I did.

Picked up from the Library:

Seers is one I’ve been wanting to read for a while. I met the author back in January and she was really nice. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to dive into this one.

The Silent Songbird is one I picked at random because the blurb sounded interesting. I didn’t realize it was the 7th in a series until just now. Ah well, hopefully it can be read as a standalone as well. I hate when it’s not clear that something is in a series/where it stands in that series. Despite that, I hope it’s a good read.

What did you pick up this last week?

Leave a comment or a link to your blog post, and I’ll check it out.

This past week was spring break for the schools around here. That means I didn’t have as much time for my usual reading because I was spending it with my kids. I’m totally good with that. They’re a fun little bunch to spend time with. Plus, some of that time together we were reading aloud, and we also spent a lot of time at the library since they had lots of fun activities. Gotta love the library. But, without further ado, here’s what books I got last week.

Books I acquired:

Bought:

This one has been on my list for a while now, so when I saw it had gone on sale, I had to pick it up. I must say, I’m a total sucker for princess stories which is exactly what this is. Even better, she hunts down criminals at night and is now going to help stop a war. Definitely sounds like my type of book. Can’t wait to read it!

Ever since I finished God of the Sun I have wanted to read this. I’m excited it’s out now so I can dive in. It might just be my next read.

This last week has been a good reading week. I’ve gotten a lot done and enjoyed it immensely. I’m excited to get my hands on a couple of books that I’ve been wanting to read for a while. They should be good reads. Fingers crossed!

Books I acquired:

Bought:

This is fudged a little bit since I found this one when it was having one of two free days. I had to grab it though. The cover is so pretty, plus the first line of the blurb is: “In Illaria, there is a fate worse than death.” Call me intrigued!

Surprise:

I was minding my own business when my daughter came home from school, a rained on package in her hand she snagged off the front porch with my name on it. Low and behold, I open it to find a signed copy of Dragonwatch. Squeal! So excited! I don’t usually like MG books, but I adore the Fablehaven series. I have an inkling of who sent it, but need to find out for sure. It’s super awesome though! And if you were the one who gifted it to my family–THANK YOU!!!

From the Library:

Moonglow is, honestly, one I don’t have high hopes for. The reviews aren’t super great, but I still wanted to give it a try. We’ll see how it goes.

So excited to get my hands on a copy of Wires and Nerve. I adored the Lunar Chronicles! The main series is one of my favorites. To continue the story through Iko? Eeep! She was one of my favorite characters. I have to admit, this is my first graphic novel, but I’m excited about it. Was so excited, in fact, that I already read and reviewed it, lol. Super happy I picked this one up.

Ignite and Endure are ones I’ve wanted to read for a while. I really enjoyed the first book, Defy once I was finally in the mood for a girl disguised as a boy trope. Hopefully the rest of the series doesn’t disappoint.

From NetGalley:

To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about the cover of this one. When I first saw it I liked it, but the more I look at it, the more I’m feeling meh about it. But, the description caught me when it said:

Arete are beings that can trace their lineage and powers from ancient Greece. They do not claim their inheritance comes from the gods, rather legend says they are descended from cursed beings, such as Medusa.

Descended from people like Medusa huh? I’m all over that! I really hope I like this one as my last couple of NetGalley books haven’t done it for me. I want to enjoy this one!

This past week I didn’t get as much reading done as I wanted due to some migraines. Darn things got in the way of reading more and searching for more books. Hopefully this coming up week is better, and I can find more books.

Books I acquired:

Bought:

None. Crazy, but good for my wallet.

From the Library:

Chalice by [Mckinley, Robin]

I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Robin McKinley so I’m hoping Chalice is a good find. Sounds alright, like there’s some promise there. Dangerous sounded cool at the library but when I came home I realized the reviews are so-so.  That means I’ll be going into it with low expectations, which might be a good thing? I don’t know, we’ll see.

From NetGalley:

Stone Keeper sounded really good when I got it at from NetGalley. So far it’s been a disappointing read, but I’m not far into it. Hopefully by the time you read this I will have found an interesting point and finished it with the same enjoyment that everyone else seems to have found with this novel.

What books did you get this past week?

List them in the comments or leave me a link, and I’ll stop by.
